The official HealthCare.gov phone number is 1-800-318-2596 (TTY 1-855-889-4325), available 24/7 except holidays. Here's what the call center can and can't do, what to have ready, why lines back up near December 15 and January 15, and a free way to skip the queue.

The HealthCare.gov phone number is 1-800-318-2596. It reaches the official Marketplace Call Center, which HealthCare.gov lists as available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except holidays. If you use a TTY, the number is 1-855-889-4325. Help is available in other languages, too.
The line does its heaviest work during open enrollment. For 2027 coverage, the window on HealthCare.gov runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027, and you need to enroll by December 15 for a plan that starts January 1. For the full season calendar and what changed this year, see our open enrollment 2027 guide.
One thing to be clear about up front: FreedInsure LLC (NPN: 20230457) is an independent, licensed insurance brokerage in 42 states. We are not HealthCare.gov and not a government office. What we can do is enroll you in the same Marketplace plans at the same price, free, because carriers pay the broker. Call (844) 788-3733.
Quick answer: The HealthCare.gov phone number is 1-800-318-2596 (TTY 1-855-889-4325). It's the official Marketplace Call Center, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except holidays. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027; enroll by December 15 for a January 1 start. Lines are busiest near both deadlines, so call early.
How Do You Talk to Someone at HealthCare.gov?
Call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596, or 1-855-889-4325 for TTY, to reach a representative. It's one of several free ways to get HealthCare.gov help; the right one depends on whether you need your application handled, in-person guidance, or someone to compare plans with you.
| Help Option | How to Reach It | What It Does | Keep in Mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace Call Center | 1-800-318-2596, 24/7 except holidays | Applications, enrollment, updates to your application, ending coverage; help in other languages | Explains plans but won't choose one for you; busiest near December 15 and January 15 |
| TTY line | 1-855-889-4325 | The same Marketplace help for callers who use TTY | Same hours, same deadline rush |
| Your HealthCare.gov account | Log in at HealthCare.gov | Apply, compare plans, enroll, and end coverage on your own schedule | No hold time, but no one to ask; every decision is yours alone |
| Local assister (Navigator) | HealthCare.gov Find Local Help, by city, state, or ZIP code | Free help applying and understanding your options, often in person | Availability varies by area; assisters stay impartial on which plan you pick |
| Licensed agent or broker | Find Local Help, or an independent broker such as FreedInsure at (844) 788-3733 | Compares plans against your doctors, prescriptions, and budget; enrolls you; stays on as your advisor | Free, same plans and prices; an independent business, not the government |
HealthCare.gov's Find Local Help tool lists assisters alongside agents and brokers, so a broker isn't a workaround; it's a route HealthCare.gov itself points to. If your state runs its own marketplace, use that marketplace's help line and deadlines instead of the federal number.

What Can the Marketplace Call Center Help With?
The call center can help you apply, enroll in a plan, update your application, and end Marketplace coverage. It's a general help line, not a personal advisor: representatives can explain your options, but choosing the plan is on you. Billing and claims questions go to your insurance company, not HealthCare.gov.
What the HealthCare.gov call center can do
Start or finish an application by phone, for yourself or your whole household. Walk you through plan options and enroll you. Update your application when your income or household changes. End your coverage, which you can also do by logging into your Marketplace account. And it can do all of that in other languages.
What it can't do
Pick your plan. Representatives can read out plan details, but they won't tell you which plan fits your doctors, prescriptions, and budget. Take your premium payment or fix a claim. You pay your insurance company directly, and billing or claim questions go to the number on your insurance card. Manage a state-run marketplace account. If your state runs its own exchange, your account doesn't live on the federal system. Promise a wait time. CMS hasn't published a current wait-time figure that we could verify.
Two calls you may not need to make
If you're switching plans during open enrollment, you don't have to call and cancel your old plan first. HealthCare.gov says you don't need to end your coverage if you're enrolling in a new or different plan during Open Enrollment; our guide to switching Marketplace plans walks through it. If you are ending coverage, slow down: HealthCare.gov warns not to end your plan until you know for sure when your new coverage starts. After you cancel, you generally can't re-enroll until the next open enrollment unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
When Is the HealthCare.gov Phone Line Busiest?
Calls pile up close to the two open enrollment deadlines: December 15 and January 15. CMS hasn't published a current wait-time figure that we could verify, so we won't quote one, and you should be skeptical of any site that does. What's safe to say is that waiting until deadline week puts you in the longest line of the season.
Here's why those two dates matter. Enroll by December 15, 2026 and your coverage starts January 1, 2027. Enroll between December 16 and January 15 and it starts February 1, which leaves a one-month gap if your current coverage ends December 31. After January 15, you generally need a qualifying life event to get in.
How to stay out of the deadline rush
Call in November. Nothing is gained by waiting. Pick a time that suits you. Because the line runs around the clock except holidays, you aren't limited to office hours. Handle the simple parts online first, like logging in and reviewing your current plan, so the call is about decisions, not passwords. Have your paperwork ready (see the next section). Renewing? Read whether to let your plan auto-renew first.
What Should You Have Ready Before Calling HealthCare.gov?
Have your account login, details for everyone applying, any job-based coverage offer, and a realistic 2027 income estimate. The income estimate matters most because it sets your premium tax credit.
🔑 Account Login
Your HealthCare.gov username and the email on the account, plus your application ID if you have one. It helps a representative find your file instead of starting from scratch.
👪 Household Details
Legal names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers (or immigration document information) for everyone applying, plus basic details for anyone else in your tax household.
💰 2027 Income Estimate
Your best projection of 2027 household income: wages, self-employment, 1099 work, and other taxable income. Recent pay stubs and last year's tax return help you build it.
🏢 Job-Based Coverage Info
If anyone in your household is offered insurance at work, know what the employee-only coverage costs. A job-based offer can affect whether you qualify for a tax credit.
Why the income number carries so much weight in 2027: under current law, unless Congress acts, premium tax credits for 2027 are available between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. That's $15,960 to $63,840 for a single person and roughly $33,000 to $132,000 for a family of four. Go $1 over 400% and the credit is $0. And the IRS says that for tax years after 2025, you must repay the full amount by which your advance credit payments exceed the credit you actually qualify for.

Call HealthCare.gov or Use a Licensed Broker?
Call the Marketplace about your eligibility decision or your federal account; call a licensed broker when you want someone to compare plans with you and handle the enrollment. Both are free. The plans and the prices are the same either way.
Straight talk: we are not HealthCare.gov, and we won't pretend to be. FreedInsure is an independent licensed brokerage. Eligibility decisions and appeals come from the Marketplace itself, so if your question is about your federal account, the right number is 1-800-318-2596. But if what you need is a plan chosen and enrolled before December 15, a broker does that for $0, at the same premium you'd pay going direct, because carriers pay us, not you. Be wary of any site that dresses itself up as the government to get your call.
How it works at FreedInsure: you call (844) 788-3733 or fill out the form below, and a licensed advisor calls you back, typically within 15 minutes. That same advisor projects your 2027 income, checks plans against your doctors and prescriptions, compares carriers in your ZIP code, and submits the enrollment. You get one person to call for the rest of the year, not a new queue every time. If Medicaid looks like your better fit, we'll tell you and point you to the application.
Either way, the federal deadlines apply. Before you call anyone, skim our open enrollment mistakes to avoid.
